Byward Jewelry was born from the pages of an old diary, a diary kept by my grandparents. In it, I discovered the beginning of their love story.

They first met in Byward Market, in the heart of Ottawa. It was one of those rare moments when life changes in an instant. It was love at first sight. Years later, my grandfather returned to that very same place. There, surrounded by the echoes of their first meeting, he asked my grandmother to marry him.

Byward became more than a place. It became the backdrop of both their beginning and their promise.

Decades have passed, and the diary still holds their laughter, their struggles, their milestones, and the little details of everyday love. The pages are fragile now, the ink has faded, but the emotions remain as vivid as ever.

Reading those words, I realized something profound. While diaries preserve memories through ink, jewelry can preserve them through form. A ring, a necklace, a stone—each can hold the weight of a promise, a moment, a story.
